The first step in getting your hair professionally cut is finding the right salon, a new study has found.
“You don’t have to look at a professional hairstylist for the best results,” said Joanna Lea, who co-authored the study with fellow author Jennifer Houghton.
“It’s actually quite easy to find the right one.”
The study, published in the journal Hair & Styling, also showed that there are many types of stylists, from barbers to barbers and stylists to hair stylists.
“When it comes to hair, you don’t need to be a trained barber to find a good one,” Lea said.
“We found that there were different styles of hair stylist, but in general, the ones that are considered ‘professional’ usually have the most experience.”
Lea said that stylists who work in a salon often have experience in hair and makeup, as well as a background in beauty care.
“They have a lot of experience in this field, so they understand what they’re doing,” Leas said.
While there are more than 2,000 hair stylistics in the U.S., only about 15 percent of them are accredited with the International Hair Association, the world’s largest association of hair care professionals.
“The association doesn’t have a standard certification program,” Leavitt said.
“That’s why we’re talking about the need for training.”
A recent survey of more than 10,000 stylists showed that only about 40 percent had at least a bachelor’s degree in hair care.
Leavitt says she wants to help improve the quality of haircare for both salon workers and hair stylers.
“I would love to have people who are trained in all these areas, who understand what hair is, how it’s done, what products work, and how to use them,” Leap said.
To find out if a stylist is the right fit for you, Lea and Houghts research found that the following things need to go right:• The stylist has to be licensed to perform hair surgery on clients.• The salon is located within 30 miles of a major city.• They must be certified in hair restoration and cosmetology.• All stylists must have a background working in hair, makeup, and hair products.• You have to have at least two years of experience.
The study also looked at how many stylists are needed to get the most hair done in a given day, and found that it depends on what the client is looking for.
“You can go from the salon to a barber, and the barber can be doing the hair in less than an hour,” Leal said.
Houghton said the most common question she hears is, “I don’t want to pay for my hair.”
“That usually happens to the person who’s looking for a haircut, and that’s usually because the stylist won’t do it for free,” Leawts said.
There are many other factors that come into play when it comes time to buy your hair, she said.
For example, some people may not have time to wait for the right stylist or they’re afraid of having to pay a premium for a salon appointment.
Lea and Leavits study found that in most cases, the average haircut cost is between $250 and $350, but some people have higher or lower costs.
“That’s really what’s driving us to do this study,” Leaa said.
The study found a wide variety of prices in hair products and hair care services, and most stylists charge between $100 and $200 for a one-hour appointment.
